Who It Is – That Designs and Installs – Your Equipment Match – Up – And Duct Sizing Layout, Is Way More Important Than What Equipment Brand You Use. Especially Good Duct Design. Cheap-Out Duct Pricing is Not The Same as Low Cost Duct Pricing! Quality Duct Work can be done With Great Seasonal Promotion Prices! But What You Don’t Want is Low Quality Poorly Functioning Duct Design.

Not All Bids are Apples to Apples. When Our Houston AC Competitors Cut Corners To Be The Lowest Bidders, They Create Apples to Spinach!

How as a Consumer Would You Know If Your Filter Grill is Sized Too Small For Your System’s Tonnage? Choking Off Your Air Intake! Or If Your Ducts Going To Your Rooms Are Too Small In DiameterRestricting Your Air Trying To Flow Out To Your Rooms! Or How Would You Know If Your AC Guy Even Knows How to Calculate Sizes? If you have a 3 Ton System with only a 2 Ton Duct Design, All You will Get is 2 Tons of Air While Paying For 1/3 More Cooling Than You are getting. 3 Ton Compressors Costs 1/3 More Energy To Run than 2 Ton Compressors. And If Your House Needs 3 Tons to Get Cool Quickly,  You Won’t Get It.

Each Ton Of Air Movement is 400  CFM. 400 Cubic Feet per Minute. So a 2 Ton System is 800 CFM. And a 3 Ton System is 1200 CFM. CFM Values Define Tonnage. Static Pressure can be Described as a Ballooning Effect, Which Can Limit Your System’s Ability to Move Air. Depending  on Static Pressure, Flex Ducts Such as a 5 inch diameter, can only pass about 50 CFM. Verses a 6 inch that may carry 75 CFM of Air. At Higher Static Pressures These Duct Sizes Can Carry More CFMs. But High Static Preasure is Like High Blood Pressure. Which Can Cost You. The Point I’m Making is, The Smaller The Duct, The Less Air Tonnage You Get Out of It.

Smaller Diameter Ducts Are Cheaper Than Bigger Diameter Ducts! If You Have a Permit and They Try to Put a 16 inch Diameter Duct From Your Air Filter to the Intake of Your Furnace for a 3 Ton AC and Heating System, The City Inspector Will Make Them Use an 18 inch Diameter Duct, So You Won’t Be Stuck with only 2 Tons of Airflow With a 3 Ton System.

If They Don’t Want to Pull a Permit, Don’t Use Them. Texas State Law Requires Ductwork To Be Permitted. Yet I hear AC Guys Running Advertising, Wanting to Sneak In Un-Inspected Ductwork, by Falsely Claiming  Duct Work is Somehow Exempt From Needing Permits. Which is Not True. Permits Protect You From Cheap-Out Duct Design! Without a City Inspector Going Behind Them To Make Sure It’s Done Right, You Can End Up Stuck. Being Less Comfortable with Big Energy Bills, For The Life of Your Ductwork.

You Would Be Surprised How Many Customers Think They Got a Really Cheap Deal on their AC and Heat Installation, Not Realizing Their AC Guy’s Side Job is Costing Them Every Month on Energy Costs, Due To Not Matching Up The Correct Evaporator Or Air Handler To Their 16 SEER Condensing Unit. And They Actually Can End Up With as Little as 12 SEER. With The Wrong Evaporator. While Paying For That Condensing Unit’s 16 SEER Capable Rating.

Houston HVAC Always Pulls Permits, with the exception of when there is no Township to Get a Permit From. If They Want to Avoid Pulling a Permit, it Could be Because They Can’t Pull Permits. Having Only An Employee License. A (White Card License). Which in Texas Does Not Require a Test! It’s Just For a Background Check Only. First Day Beginners Must Buy a License Before We Can Put Them on a Job Site. Only a Masters License Holder (Gold Card License) Can Pull Permits. If you are in the County, There is no one to get a permit from. That’s when you need to make sure they have a (Gold Card, Master’s AC License). Not A (White Card, AC License, Employee Only License). They are Required by Law to Carry It With Them.

Also When Selling Your Home it is Important to Know That The Buyer’s Home Inspector Will Try To Scare Off Your Buyer. Codes Change Every Year. The Insulation R Values On Ductwork Has Changed Twice in the past. Now Pressure Testing is Required On New AC and Heat Systems. Codes Change. You Only Get Grandfathered to Existing Code The Day You Get Your Permit. Today’s Code Is Not Likely To Pass a Home Sale Inspection In the Future. Having a Permit Grandfathers Your HVAC Work.

Everyone in Houston Knows that Hot Air Rises, Carrying The Hot Humidity With it to Your Ceiling! So  For Houston A/C Systems, Why Would You Want Your Air Intake Filter Grill Near The Floor? Sucking in the Cooler Less Humid Air.  Yet We See Air Filters at Floor Level in about 1/3 of Homes in the Houston Heat! This Huge Mistake Even Passes Inspection! I don’t agree with it passing, but it does. It Passes Inspection Because Even Though Houston is Famous for Our Humidity and Heat Locally; Climates are way Different Up North were Their Cold Winters are Dominant,Thus, Codes have to Allow For Heating Systems to Suck Away the Cold Air From The Floor Level were Cold Air Settles.

But In Houston, Air Filters Should Be Located at the Ceiling Level. So When Your AC Unit Comes on, The Hot Humid Air that accumulates at your Ceiling Can Be Sucked Away Instantly! Cooling your Rooms Down in Minutes. But with a Duct Design Flaw, Such as Your Filter Located Near the Floor, Your AC System Has To Run Up Your Electric Bill For Possibly an Hour or More To Wick the Humidity Down to Floor Level So It Can Be Sucked Away into your Air Filter. Houston is Cooling Season Dominant. So If Your Filter is at Floor Level, Give Us A Call! We Will Be Glad to Put You in a Ceiling Level Filter Grill. To Remove Your Ceiling Level Humidity Like a Commercial Hood Vent.

Upgrades Being Left Out of the Bid Now can Save A Couple Hundred Dollars on New Equipment Now, Only To Spend It Right Back To Your Electricity Provider Every Month Until You Buy The Upgrade!

Buying Upgrades Now, Such as an Expansion Valve, Makes it Possible  to Get an extra Pound or Two of Freon into Your AC System, So During The Hottest Summer Months, You Get a Much Colder Cooling Coil.  Your Evaporator Cooling Coil is Located Inside Your Ductwork.  When Your Cooling Coil has an Expansion Valve, It Gives You Better Humidity Removal, and Quicker Cooling. With Less Electric Bill Run Time. An Expansion Valve Saves You Money!

Did You Know That If your Air Conditioning System Can Get Your Humidity Down to 50%, You Can Actually Be Too Cold at 80 Degrees With a Ceiling Fan On! Humidity Removal is What We at Houston HVAC Concentrate On, So You can be More Comfortable For Less Energy Usage.

Bad Brand Choices For A/C Equipment Can Also Cost You. Such as Any Brands Using Micro Channel Coils. Micro Channel Coils are Well Known To Develop Freon Leaks Early in The First Few Years Before Their Warranty Expires. You Get The Coil Free Under Warranty, But You Still Have to Pay For The Labor. And After The Warranty Expires, Who Pays Parts And Labor?  You Should Be Aware That, Some Well Known Air Conditioning Brands Have Started Using Micro Channel Coils. Not Good! Micro Channel Coils Are Cheaper, But They Just Don’t Last.

Also Look Out For AC Condensing Unit Replacements with R-22 Freon Alternatives Such as R-407c All Of These are Most Likely To Use The Cheaper Micro Channel Coils. Avoid them at all cost! Instead, Use a 410a Condensing Unit, with a Condenser  Coil that is Not Micro Channel!

Almost All Equipment Brands have a Copeland Scroll Compressor. The Copeland Scroll Compressor is hands down, The Best Compressor Out There. But There are Other Compressors. Such as LG, Which is also a Well Known Compressor Manufacturer. But not for Good Reason. LG is Most Well Known Now, for the Class Action Lawsuit, Involving their Bad Choice of Putting Plastic Valves inside Their Compressors. For that Reason, Many LG Compressors Didn’t Last But a Few Years.
